米インテル、ＯＬＰＣプロジェクトから撤退へ

［ニューヨーク ３日 ロイター］ 米インテル<INTC.O>は３日、世界の恵まれない子ども向けにパソコンを１台１００ドルで供給するプロジェクト「One Laptop per Child（ＯＬＰＣ）」から撤退し、ＯＬＰＣの役員会からも人員を引き揚げる方針を明らかにした。プロジェクトの役員会が同社に対し、新興市場でＯＬＰＣ以外の取り組みを止めるよう要請したことが背景。
ＯＬＰＣは、マサチューセッツ工科大学（ＭＩＴ）のニコラス・ネグロポンテ教授が主導する非営利のプロジェクト。インテルのスポークスマン、チャック・ムロイ氏によると、ＯＬＰＣ役員会は「インテルに対し、ＯＬＰＣではないプラットフォームへの支援を中止するよう要請した」という。
インテルは昨年、発展途上国向けのラップトップＰＣ「クラスメート」を発表。ことしも複数の別プロジェクトを立ち上げる可能性がある。
ＯＬＰＣプロジェクトの代表者からのコメントは今のところ得られていない。
